My best advice for choosing lamps for your home

My best advice for choosing lamps for your home

What is your best advice for choosing lamps?

Choosing lamps for your home can be a little tricky. Not only do you have to think about what they look like and if they work with your design scheme. But you also need to consider their size and if they will fit. Where are you placing your lamps within your home? How many of them are you thinking to add? As of course this will impact what you choose too.

I’ve created a little checklist that I use whenever considering lighting. It’s also a bit of a question/answer list too and will hopefully help you to bring beautiful light into your home.

Choosing a lamp checklist

1. How many lamps do you think your room needs?

2. What type of lamps do you want to add to your home?

Once you’ve decided on quantity, then think about where they might be placed. Are you using a table lamp? Do you need a floor lamp? Is the light being used to work with? Or is it mood lighting in the evening?

3. Think about the size of lamp you need.

Depending on where you are putting your lamps will depend on the size you need. If your lamp is for a side table, then think about the size. If you want to put other little trinkets on to the side table too, then it needs to be about 1/3 the size of the table. If you are planning on making a feature of the lamp, then make sure the shade diameter is the same as the width of the table.

4. Is your lamp for mood lighting?

If the answer to this is yes, then you really want a lamp that is dimmable, or uses a low wattage bulb. If the answer is no, then it is likely you will need a more powerful light, that requires a higher wattage of bulb.

5. How much are you willing to spend?

Lighting isn’t cheap, but there is a reason for this. Lighting is one of the most important parts of interior design. No matter how beautiful an interior is, with the wrong lighting, it just won’t work.

Seeing as you are asking the question all the way from Denmark (wow!), here are a few of my favourite online stores to buy lamps from.

Pooky for quirky lamps, Flos for those with a slightly larger budget, Tigermoth for wall lamps and Lux Deco for anything glam.
